Chassis R049 is currently in California, US. It is still with it's first owner, Jay Leno. The car is finished in red. It is one of two Rockets in the US. The Chassis number puzzled us a bit as to our knowledge only 38 production cars were build and another 10 racechassis were constructed. ![]() ![]() Chris Holley, who build R049, provided us with some additional info on R049 and explains the chassisnumber:
"The reason this Rocket was numbered R049 was because, as you said, this was a continuation of the numbers from the race chassis's R049 was the next available number. This car had a number of small improvements made to make it easier to work on. All the electrical fuses and relays were housed in one box mounted on the chassis next to the passenger seat. The battery holder was mounted longways, nearer the body to aid changing and charging. It was fitted with an immobiliser, small pad on the drivers headrest, and a small number of cosmetic changes. ![]() It was exported into the States as "An assemblage of automotive parts" in 4 crates. I was lucky enough to be able to go to California to build, and set the car up for the owner. This was the last customer car build at Stanford-In-The-Vale." ![]() Trackback(0)
